The Sun shone down on the OVSC Tennis Finals Day which took place recently. Members, family and friends enjoyed a great display of tennis as well as a delicious bbq washed down with a glass or two of prosecco!
Ali Anderson, the mens captain, came through a tough singles against youngster Nathan Richelle, eventually winning in an enthralling 3 sets. He then went on to win the Mens Doubles with partner Stephen Morris and completed his afternoon by winning the Mixed Doubles with Vikki Arkinstall. Vikki also won the ladies singles, but just missed out on the ladies doubles with partner Claire Mcintosh, losing to Nicky Lemon and Lynne Hunt.
As well as the annual tournament finals being played the afternoon also saw the finals of the Wallis Cup tournament, which has been running all winter, where Steve Anderson and Janette Dyson won beating David Young and Belinda Shawdon.
Maori-Oxshott Cricket colts and the Oxshott Tennis Club juniors have started their summer of matches in fine form. The first weekend of cricket saw wins in their league matches for the U9’s, U10’s, U11’s and U13’s, while the 8 and under, 9 and under, 14 and under girls and 16 and under boys all secured victories in some nailbiting tennis matches. Keep up the good work everybody and best of luck in your next matches.

Congratulations to Ben Godfrey, a member of the Squash section at OVSC who represented Reed’s School recently in the National Schools Squash Trophy 2017 at the Manchester Squash Centre. Reed’s made it to the final but were unfortunately beaten. However, we are pleased to say that Ben won both his games in the final and in the semi-final. This achievement was all the greater as Ben is only 12 and was competing in the U15 competition!
John Watkins and Edith Skelton, stalwarts of the Cricket Section (MOCC) and the Netball section resepctively, were the hugely deserving recipients of the Mundays Volunteer of the Year award and the Savills Long and Distiguished Service award at the OVSC AGM on Tuesday evening.
John has worked tirelessly to grow the colts section at MOCC over the last couple of years with fantastic results, while Edith has devoted time and energy for many years to ensure the netball section has grown and thrived. Both our well deserving heroes of OVSC are always the first to volunteer their time and energy and we thank them unreservedly. Neither the cricket section nor the netball section would be half as successful without them. John and Edith we salute you!
Ian Camplin, Head of Residential at Savills, Cobham, presented President of OVSC, Robert Butler, with a cheque for £1,500 last week thanks to the sale of a Member’s house through Savills. Every member’s house sold through Savills brings the Club £1,500 as part of their sponsorship deal with OVSC. Thank you Savills, your continued support is hugely appreciated!
