Tennis Summer Successes

Tennis Summer Successes – it’s been a mixed summer of success for the Oxshott tennis teams this year.  However, the ladies 1st team have continued to impress, following their Woking Winter league win earlier in the year, by winning their Surrey summer league which sees them being promoted for 2019.

The Mens 4th team have also secured promtion after coming second in their Surrey league group with their final game played yesterday.   The Mens 2nd team also came second in their group which also secures their promotion for 2019!

Ladies End of Summer Tennis Tournament

Ladies End of Summer Tennis Tournament – 24 ladies played in the End of Summer Tennis Tournament last Friday at the club.  In near perfect conditions there was fun but also competitive tennis played.  Carole Charlton was the eventual winner and can be seen alongside Pat Williams and Fiona Windsor who organised the tournament brilliantly.  She can also be seen receiving her trophy from Rod Stevens, the Tennis Chairman, who also joined the ladies for lunch afterwards.

We should also say thank you to all those who donated to the Macmillan Cancer Charity which we were collecting for.

Sponsors and Members cheer on England!

Over 80 sponsors and members cheered on England in their match against Sweden on Saturday afternoon in the inaugural OVSC Sponsors’ Tea Party. A fabulous array of cakes, generously baked by various members, accompanied cups of tea and glasses of Prosecco as the 1st XI cricket match against local rivals Cobham Avorians ground to a halt at 3pm to allow the cricketers some much welcome respite from the blistering sun to enjoy watching the football as well. Spurred on by the England football team, the 1st XI took to the field again after the final whistle and in a thrilling nail-biter of a match posted their 5th win of the season.

Wallis Cup Finals

The Winter Wallis Cup Mixed doubles tournament took place at Finals Day on Saturday.

Angela and Graham Woods played Carol Littlewood and Graham Foote and in a first for the Wallis Cup tournament Angela and Graham won the tournament as well as winning the trophy (again!) for the most matches played.  Well done to Angela & Graham.

Thanks also to Frank Wallis and Sarah Eisner who support and organise the tournament throughout the cold, winter months.

The tournament which is played on a handicap system, is a great way for all members to play some competitive tennis against other members.
