“Cricket Season Finale” – The shortened 2020 cricket season is all but over with just a couple of games to play up at the end of September. The senior teams finished their campaigns very strongly – finishing 1st and 3rd respectively in their mini leagues. Thanks to Henry Thorpe and George Depree who led their teams throughout the summer, with a particular mention of George’s haul of wickets which placed him amongst the leading wicket takers in Surrey! Henry and George can be seen in preparation for their Captains Match which took place on the Sunday of the August Bank holiday.
Junior cricket siezed the opportunity of competitive action with both hands. We may have lost the early months but played amazing catch up in July and August. Although all games were on a friendly basis there was no shortage of close fought games against old local rivals! Some teams even played more than in 2019. Thanks to all team managers who rallied their troops for so many matches in such a short period and especially to Rowan Crooks for his co-ordination of the junior section.
A particular highlight of the season has been the integration of those at the top end of the junior ranks into senior cricket. There have been opportunities offered for both Saturday and Sunday matches with teams characterised by a blend of youth and experience.
