The “Inspired Trophy” Event was played on Sunday 8th  March.  The event attracted 24 teams with a wide range of experience.

The “Inspired Trophy” was initiated after the receipt of money from Sport England enabling the club chalet and lower terrain to be built. The teams played in a league format in the morning, and based on the results, the afternoon games were played on a knockout basis.

The afternoon grouping was a Gold, Silver and Bronze format and a consolage for each section. Everyone who entered played at least 5 games and the cash prizes were across the board, with all the entrance monies being paid as prizes.

The morning games started at 10.00am, and the weather held until shortly before lunch. To complete the league, competitors played during the late morning rain. The reward for finishing, was to then enjoy the warmth of the Clubhouse and food provided by Jeff.

It was great to see and hear the enjoyment of 2 fathers with their 11 year old daughters, and to see England players shooting out boules and others accurately pointing.

The rain changed the way the terrain played during the day and everyone enjoyed the challenge of adapting their throws.

Whilst a rain free day would have been ideal, the participants all complimented the club organisers on a well run event.

Oxshott Petanque Charity Winter Melee

WINTER MELEE REPORT

The Oxshott Petanque Club Winter Melee held on Saturday 4th January, 2020 was blessed with dry, chilly weather.  The 46 competitors soon warmed up when the competition commenced.   There was a happy buzz and great interaction between all the participators from arrival to departure.

Upon arrival, the competitors enjoyed a hot drink and one of Jeff’s excellent bacon rolls. Once registered, players randomly drew for their playing partners and opposition for the three games.  Raffle tickets were also sold for the generously donated prizes.

After a short briefing on the terrain, the games commenced, and the winners in each section were established after 3 games.  Laughter and chatter prevailed with new acquaintances being made and previous ones renewed.  It was then back to the clubhouse for a very delicious and warming soup and roll prepared by Jeff and Maire.

Following the raffle, the results were announced:-

  • The Best Junior was Matt Gibson
  • The competitor who won no games with the highest points difference was Krystyna Gray (Richmond U3A)
  • The competitors who won one game with the highest points difference were Jeanette Stewart (Richmond U3A) and Gill Sterry (Oxshott PC)
  • The competitor who won two games with the highest points was Pam Cannon (Oxshott PC)
  • The overall winner who won all three games and had the highest  points difference was Richard Foulsham (Oxshott PC)

Richard received the ‘Winter Melee’ trophy and chose the Charity (Prostate Cancer) for the profit made from part of the entry fee and 100% raffle takings.  An impressive sum of  £315.00 will be going to the Charity. Thanks to all those who bought raffle tickets for this great cause.

We were delighted to received a letter of thanks from Prostate Cancer UK – click here to view.

Elmbridge Sports Awards 2019

Celebrations for OVSC!

The Elmbridge Sports Awards ceremony for 2019 took place on Friday 13 December at ACS Cobham to celebrate the achievements, dedication, talent and hard work of athletes, coaches and volunteers in Elmbridge.

We are absolutely delighted that OVSC had two winners, with James Starr, Director of Tennis, winning the Coach of the Year Award and John Watkins, MOCC Chairman, winning Volunteer of the Year Award. James can be seen receiving his award.

James’ award was in recognition of the extensive coaching programme that he has set up at the club for all its members.  This has included a new adult and junior tennis development pathway as well as the school links initiative, a Parks outreach programme and the success of the junior tennis teams.

Meanwhile John Watkins, who was colts co-ordinator for many years before being promoted to MOCC Chairman this year won Volunteer of the Year.  This was in recognition of his dedication to the club and in particular the colts cricket section, building it into where we are now with over 100 members playing and enjoying training and matches throughout the season.

It is great that both James and John have won these awards in what has been the Club’s Centenary year.  So, as 2019 draws to a close we can reflect on all that the club has achieved this year.  We have completed a number of major developments leaving a legacy for the club for the future, including 2 new state of the art cricket nets, a new Multi-use games area and extensive car parking area and to top it all off James and John win their awards!
