The 2020-21 Wallis Cup is now in progress with 21 mixed pairs of all standards competing for the trophy and enjoying playing against and getting to know the other pairs who have entered. The idea is for every pair to play all the other pairs if they can! Entries for this year’s competition are now closed.
The Wallis Cup is an annual handicapped mixed doubles tournament running from autumn to spring whose main objectives are to encourage social play throughout the winter and to give new and existing members an opportunity to meet others in a friendly but gently competitive setting. The handicap format gives every pair an opportunity to score games. It consists of four stages – the round-robin stage, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. The dates for each are set in the Rules published at the start of the competition.
The Wallis Cup trophy is awarded to the winning pair and plates are awarded to the runners up, third place and the pair who have played the most matches that year. All are engraved with the pair’s names and displayed in the club’s trophy cabinet.
The competition is open to players of all standards and the organisers will help you find a partner if you don’t have one.
