Petanque 6 a side
Following a successful season in the 6AS (6-a-side) Division3 East, Oxshott Petanque Club ended up joint 1st in the division with Adur Petanque Club, from Lancing in West Sussex. This required a play off for 1st place at a neutral terrain to decide who would win promotion to Division 2. This match was held at Handcross in East Sussex on Saturday 22 October.
The format was the standard 6AS one; 2 teams of 6 playing 2 simultaneous triples games, followed by 3 x simultaneous doubles games. Both teams were 1:1 after the triples games, and 2:2 after 2 of the doubles games had finished. The last doubles game to finish was a real clincher as the whole result of the match was dependent on this game. With “game on the ground” to us at 12:11, Adur failed to shoot our winning boule with their penultimate boule, and the game and the match were ours. Hurrah!
Well done and thanks to all the 6AS players who played in these matches throughout the season; thanks also to those who helped organise and supported the team throughout the season. We now face tougher teams and longer travel in Division 2 next year, but bring it on!
